Along time ago... i can't keep my centuries right..

the English were incestious, especially the aristocates because they marry within their family (includes cousins n stuff) to keep the family name or wealth.... the reason they stopped doing that was that they found out that people married with family members have retarded offsprings...

And in another time.. still england, paintings and sculptures of naked children was very popular... and to have an obsession with a child is acceptable in society for a man... The real story of Alice in the wonderland came from a 26 year old man who had an obsession with his next doorneighbor, Alice who was i think 3 when they first met... he wrote the "alice" in the story according to her... and he wrote many love letters for her and wanted locks of her hair

Aha! Now I get what you're saying! When you said that they were obsessed with incest, I was thinking you meant they ran around marrying their brothers and sister's XD Never knew that whole 'Alice' story before. Verrryyy interesting. Thanks for explaining it!

Ok I remember what century was Alice in the wonderland written in.. it was at the period of Europian exploration, and a time when Beaver hats and Felt hats were very "in"... that's around the 1800s

the reason why mad hatter was mad is because of the mercury used to treat animal fur to make them felt hats causes people to behave strangely like a mad person if u come incontact with it alot.... I think that's around the same time as the invention of asylums... since all those people wearing the hats acted like crazy people because the mercury affected their nervous systems

the rabbit and the hare in the story were present because at the time felt hats were best made with beaver but in the old world, all the beaver was pretty much killed to make hats or coats already (stupid huh?)... and so they started using the furs of hares and rabbits...that's why they were present in the story along wif the mad hatter... The Queen in the story was a low blow on bloody mary... Queen Elizabeth's older sister who had the crown before her... she killed the 8 days queen Jane Grey and caused the masacure of 100 protistants

Also, while I'm on the subject, if you want to see inbreeding in royal families, go look at the austrians or other continentals, who were in many cases far more into it than the Brits. Still, makes for interesting manga...

Victorian England is a really schitzophrenic time period. One one hand, you have the ideals on the surface: women and pure and good, society is moral, and intellectualism and improving life is important. However, underneath that, there was the madness (which noone knew how to cure,) the filth, and the sexual and social inequalities. You would not believe some of the things doctors did to women who were thought to be "hysterical." It really makes me glad I live now and not then. I would probably be a molested housemaid.
